First of all, before I jump into this Sunday and Father’s Day, let me just say that this past Sunday was truly AMAZING! We had a great kickoff to our “At the Movies” series with 946 people in person and another 841 people online. We had lots and lots of guests, gave away lots of movie tickets, and ate A LOT of popcorn! But the best part of last week was definitely Sunday afternoon at Folly Beach where WE BAPTIZED 46 PEOPLE!! That’s the most people we’ve ever baptized at any one time, and a ton of people came out early, enjoyed time at the beach, and celebrated with us! It was truly miraculous – something I will never take for granted!
I know I say this every year (because it’s true), but this has already been our BEST SUMMER OF IMPACT EVER! The energy, excitement, and enthusiasm with all the different projects has been so high you can almost reach out and touch it! Each and every project has gone so well – great leaders, lots of volunteers, and lots of NEW volunteers! And we are just past the mid-way point. There are still lots of opportunities left. One thing for you to consider about Summer of IMPACT: it is your generous, consistent giving that enables our church to do all that we do – including Summer of IMPACT. This month alone we’re putting on 11 different Tailgate Parties, feeding literally hundreds and hundreds of people in our community. Our church gladly buys all the food and supplies for these and other projects. But when I say the church, keep in mind that means YOU. YOUare the church. People tend to travel and go on vacations over the Summer, which is great (Janet and I are looking forward to getting away later this Summer). Just remember that the Ministry and IMPACT of Coastal continues whether you’re here on a Sunday or not. And everything we do is made possible by your consistent, generous giving. This Sunday is FATHER’S DAY! And yes, it’s going to be AWESOME! There will be FREE Kona Ice for everyone, Baby/Child Dedication, a gift for all the guys, and some fun giveaways (yes, probably MEAT) at the end of each service! Don’t miss it! VBS is now 3 weeks away from this Monday night: July 10th-14th, 6-8:15pm each night, for children 4 years old – 5th Grade! We already have 177 children pre-registered! This year’s theme is a Space Theme, and we can’t wait to blast off with you and your friends! Start registering your children now! Yes, we accept walk-up registrations, but it is SO HELPFUL if you go ahead and pre-register your children. To pull off an event of this magnitude, for this many nights, it is ALL HANDS ON DECK! - UPCOMING OUTREACH PROJECTS:
Carolina Youth Development Tailgate – We will be putting on a Tailgate for the students at CYD today, Friday, June 16th, 10:45am-1:30pm. Meet at Coastal.
Kids Summer Party at Mt. Carmel UMC downtown – We will be putting on a Tailgate and Party (crafts & games) for the children downtown at Mt. Carmel UMC on Saturday, June 17th, 10am-2pm. Meet at Coastal.
Hope Center Tailgate: The Hope Center, managed by the city of Charleston, serves as a one-stop shop in downtown Charleston to assist those who are homeless or who are at-risk of being homeless. We’re sending a Tailgate Team to serve dinner to anyone who is hungry. We meet at Coastal on Tuesday, June 20th, 2:30pm-5pm.
Coastal Meals On Wheels Project: Pastor Chris (PC) will be leading this Project. We’re boxing up 250 meals that will then be delivered to Patriot Villas, Charleston Vets, and Joseph Floyd Manor. We also need volunteers to sign up to cook and bring the food that we will then box up and deliver. Joseph Floyd Manor Tailgate: JFM provides low income housing for many elderly and disabled residents in downtown Charleston. We’ll be sending a Tailgate there with food and clothing on Thursday, June 22nd, 10am-1pm. Meet at Coastal.
Summer Sewing Project: Join us as we make quilts for the “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” bunk beds and for the NICU at East Cooper Medical Center. All sewing levels welcome – beginners to veterans! Thursday, June 22nd, 6-8pm.
Coffee & Doughnuts with the Vets at Patriot Villas – Friday, June 23rd, 8:30am-11am. Meet at Coastal.
Lowcountry Orphan Relief: Lowcountry Orphan Relief provides support services and aid to meet the needs of Lowcountry children identified as at-risk or suffering from abandonment, abuse and/or neglect. Coastal will be serving there Friday, June 23rd, 9:30am-11:30am. Meet at 1850 Truxton Ave in North Charleston.
Downtown Charleston “Hotdog Ministry”: We will be grilling and serving hotdogs to the homeless and hungry downtown! Friday, June 23rd, 4-6pm. Meet at Coastal.
Sleep In Heavenly Peace Build-A-Bed Project: We will be building and assembling beds for children in need in the Charleston Community. Saturday, June 24th, 4-6pm. Meet at Coastal.

Carmel UMC downtown – All of our SOI projects (see above) are important, but each week we’re going to highlight one. On Saturday (TOMORROW), June 17th, 10am-2pm, we’ll be hosting a Tailgate & Kids Party at Mt. Carmel UMC downtown. Just like our regular Tailgate Parties we’ll have food and clothes. But there will also be a lot of crafts, games, and activities for the children – great project for the whole family. So if you’re able and available, sign up today!
- As a fun way to celebrate the Summer and our “At the Movies” series, we’d like to take any children from our church and their friends (and children at heart) to the 10:30am special showing of the new “Little Mermaid” movie at Citadel Mall Cinema, Wednesday, July 5th – ON US (concessions on you)! Doors open at 9:45am. RSVP on your Connect Card or respond to this email with a number of tickets you need.
- If you’re fairly new to Coastal, a great next step is our Newcomers Reception. Our next Newcomers Reception is Sunday, June 25th, in our Chapel immediately following the 11:30am service (at approximately 12:45pm). This is a great way to learn more about Coastal, meet staff and key volunteers, as well as meet some other new people. Pizza and childcare provided. You can sign up on our website today!
- We are in the planning stages for our FALL LIFE GROUPS! LIFE Groups are the primary vehicle at Coastal for community – learning, friendships, fellowship, and care. We typically have all different types of Groups – Bible studies, book studies, activity groups, active groups, support groups, men’s/women’s groups. Would you possibly be interested in leading, assisting, or hosting a LIFE Group this Fall? The Fall Semester begins in September and depending on the Group, lasts for 8-12 weeks. Our “Summer Reading” series begins July 23rd! “Summer Reading” is where we as a Staff pick out 7 books worth reading over the Summer, and then each week we use the subject matter of one of the books as the subject of that week’s message. You can see the books and the dates in the graphic above. On Sunday, June 25th we’ll have a small number of each book available for purchase at the church. Or simply pick up the books yourself through Amazon and enjoy! Remember – leaders are readers!
