A couple of weeks ago, at the end of one of our services, I said something like, “I don’t say something like this often and I’m not saying that I heard an audible voice from God, but I am saying that I believe that God has been tugging at someone’s heart about serving in Coastal Kidz.” You know what? I still feel that way. And I’m wondering if it might be YOU! Coastal Kidz (Birth – 5th Grade) regularly sees over 200 children each and every week. It is an amazing ministry with amazing Staff & Volunteers who are making an eternal IMPACT on the next generation of Jesus followers! And yes, there is a place for YOU!
I asked Aly Huggins, our Children’s Director, where the greatest need for Volunteers is right now in Coastal Kidz. Here’s what she said:
“Do you like weird sayings, writing on your arm, and wearing long socks? Well we have just the place for you! Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classroom in Coastal Kidz is a rewarding place to share your faith with preteens through games, worship, story, and activities. We welcome almost 30 kids in this age group at the 10am service alone! Which means having loving and dedicated leaders is an essential need. If you think you may have an interest in spending an hour on Sunday with kids this age, we invite you to come check it out and see what we do.”
While the Elementary Classrooms might be our current greatest need for Volunteers in Coastal Kidz, there are plenty of other places to serve. From Child Check-in, to the Nursery, to Assisting in a classroom, to being a Buddy for a Special Needs child, I promise there is a rewarding place for you! So consider this your official “nudge” to respond to God tugging at your heart. Lowcountry Orphan Relief: Lowcountry Orphan Relief provides support services and aid to meet the needs of Lowcountry children identified as at-risk or suffering from abandonment, abuse and/or neglect. Coastal will be serving there, TODAY, Friday, September 27th, 9:30am-11:30am. Meet at 1850 Truxton Ave in North Charleston.
Downtown Charleston “Hotdog Ministry”: We will be grilling and serving hotdogs to the homeless and hungry downtown! TODAY, Friday, September 27th, 4-6:30pm. Meet at Coastal.
Food Pantry Sort & Stock: Coastal feeds an enormous amount of people. Come to the church and help keep our Food Pantry organized (and have a lot of fun while you’re at it)! Thursday, October 3rd, 11:30am-1pm.
Coffee & Doughnuts with the Vets at Patriot Villas: Friday, October 4th, 8:30am-11:30am. Meet at Coastal.
Clothing Team: Our Coastal Clothing Team will be organizing and sorting clothes, Friday, October 4th, 9:30am-11:30am. Meet at 2952 Old Pond Road on Johns Island.
Saturday Serve: The foundation of all of our serving opportunities at Coastal really starts with Saturday Serve – the first Saturday of every month. The next Saturday Serve is Saturday, October 5th. We meet in the Auditorium at 8:30am, Project Leaders make a “pitch” for their serving opportunity, and then we go out and serve!

- If you’re fairly new to Coastal, a great next step is our Newcomers Reception. Our next Newcomers Reception is NEXT Sunday, October 6th, in our Chapel immediately following the 11:30am service (at approximately 12:45pm). This is a great way to learn more about Coastal, meet staff and key volunteers, as well as meet some other new people. Pizza and childcare provided. You can sign up on our website today.
