Every summer we dedicate an entire month of volunteering and serving our community above and beyond what we normally do.
To accomplish this goal, we’ve partnered with a number of different organizations where you can volunteer and have an impact through simple acts of service.

Volunteers will be helping to repair broken railings/steps, minor masonry work, small paint projects, pressure washing and or yard projects.

MUSC Children’s Hospital treats some of the youngest, tiniest and most sick patients in the state. This project will be a sewing group that will sew pillowcases for children admitted to the Children’s Hospital. The project will also sew zippered bags to be used as hygiene kits for use with our church’s street outreach ministry. This will be a five-week project. Serve one evening or all! Those with and without sewing experience are encouraged to participate.

Their mission is to advocate with Manor residents for safe and healthy housing, while helping to protect their needs, desires, and interests. Coastal is sending a tailgating team to Joseph Floyd Manor (JFM) in downtown Charleston to provide an outdoor lunch to the residents of JFM. Help set-up, grill, and serve lunch while building relationships with Friends of Joseph Floyd Manor and the residents who call the location home.

Saturday Serve occurs on the 1st Saturday of every month. Volunteers meet in the Coastal Café for a briefing from the leaders of various projects performed both at the church and within the community. Typical projects include: The North Charleston Tailgate, The Lowcountry Food Bank, meals prepared in the Coastal kitchen for S.C Strong and the Suburban Hotel. We will also be packing blessing bags and servicing our 6 community blessing boxes. Choose the project that is of interest to you, head out to serve, and you’ll be finished by lunchtime!

Veteran’s Mobile Food Distribution

Volunteer with Soldiers’ Angels to supply low-income veterans and their families with food assistance at the Mobile Food Distribution. This project consists of preparing groceries (provided by the local food bank) for approximately 250 local veterans and their families. Volunteers then assist in the loading of the groceries into the veteran’s vehicle. Many of these veterans are disabled and have financial difficulties. It is a wonderful opportunity to give back to those who have given our nation so much.

This team will assist families facing financial difficulties and the homeless with groceries to sustain themselves and their families. The team will assist with registration, food selections and loading groceries into clients’ vehicles. This is a fast -paced, high impact project that will help relieve food insecurity for multiple families in North Charleston.

The mission of Lowcountry Orphan Relief (LOR) is to provide support services and aid to meet the needs of Lowcountry children identified as at-risk or suffering from abandonment, abuse and/or neglect. This project will serve at the Distribution Center. Volunteers will help sort, store, pack and distribute all donations for the children LOR serves. Each child, as a part of LOR’s mission, will receive a “Care Kit” filled with 2 weeks of clothing, shoes, and toiletries as well as school supplies, stuffed animals, and books.

The Blessing Bag Project – PINK House

Help us stuff some bags with goodies for the children living in the Ardmore neighborhood. Participants will receive a sign-up list in an email where you can sign up to donate items to the blessing bags. You’ll complete your shopping and bring those items to the packing event on the date listed above. All donations are then consolidated and packed with a brief note of encouragement. Participants will then take the blessing bags to the PINK House Neighborhood Resource Center for distribution to the children in the neighborhood.

Join us as we continue to build relationships and assist families in need who live in the Ardmore Neighborhood in West Ashley. Coastal, by way of clothing donations, will host a free clothing distribution for both adults and children. The team will assist with set-up/tear-down and also serve as a “concierge” to help the residents with their “shopping experience” as they make their clothing selections.

This team will head into the Ardmore Neighborhood to set up and serve a free lunch at the PINK House Neighborhood Resource Center. The team will grill/ serve hamburgers and hotdogs as well as chips, desserts and drinks. Sign up to help foster relationships with the community by serving them. Coastal will provide a picnicking area, games, and music to create a welcoming, fun, and family-friendly environment.

Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald House Charleston (RMHC) provides a “home away from home” where families stay while their children undergo extensive medical treatment. In this project, we’re assembling a team who will be collecting supplies and then meeting together to assemble “On the Go Meal Kits” for the Ronald McDonald House. “On the Go Meal Kits” provide an easily transportable lunch to help sustain the families while supporting their loved one in the hospital. Additionally, RMHC provides these meals to all families with children in intensive care units.

A Morning of Serving at Tricounty Family Ministries

Tricounty Family Ministries began in 1983 as a humble soup kitchen providing bagged lunches to the hungry. Obviously, meeting the basic human needs for survival is only the beginning point of the organization. Clients come to TFM in need of food, clothing, or shelter. They meet those basic needs and work with their clients to understand the cause of the crisis in their lives and then open the doors to opportunities to get them back on their feet. This team will assist the head chef in preparing meals in TFM’s kitchen, then help box those prepared meals for distribution. Other opportunities include working in the food pantry bagging groceries and sorting clothing donations in TFM’s clothing house.

The Suburban Hotel in North Charleston is home to veterans (many of whom are disabled), persons transitioning from a local shelter here in Charleston into permanent housing and others who are struggling socially & economically. We’re sending a tailgate team to provide burgers, hotdogs, chips, desserts and drinks to the residents. We’ll provide lunch, a shaded picnic area and music. Join us as we remind the residents of the Suburban they are not forgotten.

Sign up for this opportunity and serve right here at Coastal as we give away 800 to 1,000 BBQ lunches for free to anyone in our community who is in need. We hosted this event for several months last year during the pandemic, feeding thousands! Volunteers are needed to help box the meals into food containers, hold signs, and help to direct traffic. This a great project for the entire family and will make a significant impact in the community.
