Every summer we dedicate an entire month of volunteering and serving our community above and beyond what we normally do.
To accomplish this goal, we’ve partnered with a number of different organizations where you can volunteer and have an impact through simple acts of service.

Monday, June 1
Sewing for Kids

MUSC Children’s Hospital treats some of the youngest, tiniest and most sick patients in the state. This project will be a sewing group that will be sewing pillowcases for children admitted to the Children’s Hospital. The project will also be sewing dresses for girls as part of the church’s annual Operation Christmas Child. This will be a four-week project. Serve one night or all! Those with sewing experience and those without are encouraged to participate.

The mission of Lowcountry Orphan Relief (LOR) is to provide support services and aid to meet the needs of Lowcountry children identified as at-risk or suffering from abandonment, abuse and/or neglect. This project will be at the Distribution Center. Volunteers will help sort, store, pack and distribute all donations for the children being served. The LOR will provide each child a Care Kit filled with 2 weeks of clothing, shoes, and toiletries as well as school supplies, stuffed animals, and books.

This ministry has grown at Coastal in recent years and this year we have set a goal of over 2,000 shoeboxes. To meet this goal, we work year-round. This project is to help sort all of the donations to ensure they meet OCC criteria and to separate items by male/female and by age group. Come join other Coastal friends as we work together to meet our goal this year!

Saturday Serve occurs on the 1st Saturday of every month. Volunteers meet in the Coastal Café for a briefing from the leaders of various projects performed both at the church and within the community. Typical projects include: The North Charleston Tailgate, Jenkins Orphanage, The Lowcountry Food Bank, Meals prepared in the Coastal kitchen for My Sister’s House and S.C Strong, and Craft Projects for children to be distributed to patients in the nursing homes where Coastal conducts ministry. Choose the project that’s a great fit for you and you’ll be finished by noon!

Veteran’s Mobile Food Distribution

Volunteer with Soldiers’ Angels to Supply Low-Income Veteran Families with Food Assistance at the Mobile Food Distribution. This project consists of preparing groceries (provided by the local food bank) for approximately 200 local veterans and their families. Volunteers then assist in the loading of the groceries into the veteran’s vehicle. Many of these veterans are disabled and have financial difficulties. It is an opportunity to give back to those who have given us so much.

The Blessing Bag Project
Location: Coastal Community Church & the North Charleston Chicora Neighborhood

All volunteers will donate two packages of individual grab-n-go snack items which will be used to pack blessing bags for donation to those in need. Volunteers will be asked to provide a simple letter of encouragement to be placed into the bags. Bags will be packed at Coastal. Volunteers will then carpool over to the tailgate site and provide the bags to those who need it most. This project offers the volunteer the opportunity to directly engage others through active ministry and will be a spiritually rewarding experience.

After a long day at the hospital there is nothing more appreciated than a home-cooked meal. Get together with friends, family or co-workers to plan a menu and prepare a comforting meal for the RMH families. They provide the kitchen you provide the food. Whether a one-time event, or a monthly date, we invite you to come to the House and share your culinary skills with our families. Volunteers will coordinate a meal for up to 60 people, obtain ingredients and prepare the meal in a fully stocked RMH kitchen. Have a famous lasagna or casserole? Why not share it with someone who could certainly use a home cooked meal.
