Friday’s 5 – 11-30-18

There are lots of exciting things going on this weekend at Coastal!  First of all, if you volunteer at Coastal in any ministry – in any capacity, let US show our APPRECIATION  to YOU by joining us for a special night of THANKS & VISION (an exciting announcement) TONIGHT, November 30th, at 6:30PM!  Oyster Roast, Hotdogs, & Chili!  Childcare provided.  I hope you can make it!  We also have a small gift for you!

Due to weather concerns (rain), the Outdoor Christmas Party has been postponed one week to next Saturday, December 8th.  If you have already prepared food, please freeze it at home for use next weekend (storage at the church is extremely limited). Donations (food, blankets, hats, & gloves) for next week’s event can be dropped off at the church during the day on Friday, 12/7 or on Saturday morning, 12/8.  However, we are still having our normal SATURDAY SERVE tomorrow morning at 8:30am!  We will be:  1. Volunteering at the Lowcountry food bank.  2. Preparing and delivering meals for S.C Strong and My Sister’s House.  3. Making handmade paper wreaths and cards for nursing home residents (great project for children).  So again, Saturday Serve is still on, but the Outdoor Christmas Party has been postponed one week.  If you have any questions, please contact Chris Jones at Jonescg73@gmail.com or 843-870-4613.

I’d like to thank those of you who have already started to give toward our Annual Christmas Offering.  Remember, every gift counts and every gift matters!  However you choose to give, simply use the keyword, “Christmas.”  Our goal is $60,000!  The offering will be used for our Student Ministry (Winter Retreat expenses), Children’s Ministry (VBS & Facilities), and our Missions/Outreach (Summer of IMPACT, Saturday Serve, Oakland, Peru).  You can give using the Offering Envelope, you can give online from our website, you can give from our church app, or you can simply TEXT any amount to 843-277-8337.  Just remember to use the keyword, “Christmas.”

And speaking of Christmas, we begin our new Christmas series called, “Carols.” Each week we will sing a Christmas Carol/Hymn in church and then use that song to talk about the Christmas story and make application to our lives.  Don’t miss it!  And as always, invited and bring a friend!  People are very open to coming to church during the Christmas season.

LIFE & LOVE!
Pastor Chris

Friday’s 5 – 11-16-18

I’M BACK!  I got back on Thursday morning and pretty much crashed!  It really was an AMAZING trip and experience!  But, as always when you travel, it’s great to be HOME!  Can’t wait to see everyone on Sunday!  Thanks for putting up with all the pictures and posts on social media.

Speaking of Sundays, we’ve got two more weeks left in James with our “Losing My Religion” series.  But I want to let you know about our next Sermon Series that will kick-off on Sunday, December 2nd.  It’s our Christmas Series and it’s simply called, “Carols.”  One of the universal appeals of the Christmas season is the music – specifically, Christmas music.  So, each week we’re going to be using a classic Christmas Carol to tell the Christmas Story and make application to lives today.  Don’t miss it!  And remember, people are searching, just like they were 2,000 years ago at His birth.  So make the ask and bring your friends to church!  God can use you to help change someone’s eternity!

I hope that you and your family have begun to prayerfully consider what you will give toward our Annual Christmas Offering.  Remember it is above and beyond your regular giving.  We can’t all give the same amount, but together we can all make the same sacrifice!  And that’s when God shows up and does a miracle!  Every gift counts and every gift matters!  You can give from now until the second week of January – 10 weeks.  However you choose to give, simply use the keyword, “Christmas.”  Our goal is $60,000!  The offering will be used for our Student Ministry, Children’s Ministry, and our Missions/Outreach.  You can give using the Offering Envelope, you can give online from our website, you can give from our church app, or you can simply TEXT any amount to 843-277-8337.  Just remember to use the keyword, “Christmas.”  If you are interested in making a large donation that we can use for a matching gift, please let us know.

Friday’s 5 – 11-9-18

Well, honestly, if I had thought this through I would have written this week’s “Friday 5” in advance and just had it scheduled for today.  But I did not.  So, I am literally sitting in my hotel room in Jerusalem after a long day full of glorious adventures typing away.  It’s 7 hours ahead here in Israel, so right now it’s about 9:45pm.  We’re on the 2nd half of our trip.  The first half we stayed at Tiberius on the Sea of Galilee as our home base.  Tonight we arrived in Jerusalem and this will be home base for the second half of our trip.  Tomorrow we hit Masada, Qumran, The Dead Sea (look or me floating), and Jericho!  I hope you’re enjoying all of my/our pictures on Facebook (friend me) and Instagram (follow me).  It really has been the trip of a lifetime!  I definitely think we’ll do it again – maybe in 2 or 3 years (let me know if you’re interested).

I’m going to keep this real short.  I just wanted you know that we’re safe (no “international incidents”. . . yet), we’re having a blast (haven’t kissed or been kissed by a Jewish girl . . .yet), I miss my wife, and I miss you guys!  It really is an overwhelming experience to take in.  I’m sure we’ll all be processing it all for months.  I remember many things from 36 years ago – much of Israel is timeless.  But much has changed.  Honestly, I’m the one who’s changed.  I had only been a Christian for a short time 36 years ago.  Now I’ve started and Pastored a church for over 28 years.  It’s a totally different experience!  So far, I would say the highlight was Baptizing several people in the Jordan River and then taking a swim there!

I won’t be there on Sunday.  Ryan will be preaching.  He’ll be in chapter 4 of James.  Don’t miss it!  And definitely don’t miss Sunday, just because I’m not there.  That would be quite pathetic especially during a series about losing religion and putting your faith into action.  I will be there the following Sunday and can’t wait to see everyone and hug your necks!

Keep us in your prayers!

LIFE & LOVE!
Pastor Chris

Friday’s 5 – 11-2-18

Okay, let me get this out of the way first.  Don’t forget that your clocks “Fall Back” one hour late Saturday night/early Sunday morning.  Supposedly, this is the “good” time change in that you gain an hour.  However, I will definitely miss the longer daylight.

This is a busy & exciting weekend for us here at Coastal!  Tonight at 6pm is our Operation Christmas Child Wrapping & Packing Party!  Actually, there will be some volunteers here at the church today at 11am getting everything ready.  If you’re available, come on over!  But don’t miss tonight!  It really is a great way to start off the Holiday Season – both Thanksgiving & Christmas!  And yes, we could always use more toys & supplies to fill boxes.  If you can’t bring them by early today, just bring them with you tonight.

Saturday morning is our monthly Saturday Serve event!  Saturday Serve meets the first Saturday of every month at 8:30am in the Welcome Center.  We explain all the different serving opportunities that day, pray, and then send everyone off.  It’s a tangible way to be the hands and feet of Jesus, serving our community.  Chris Jones leads this ministry.  If you have any questions, shoot him an email.

The other reason I’m excited about this weekend is that I leave for our Israel trip on Sunday afternoon (we return to the states on November 14th)!  Actually, to say that I’m excited is quite the understatement!  I’ve been to Israel one other time – when I was 15 years old with my then Youth Pastor, Mike Diamond.  And one of the reasons this trip is so special is that Mike Diamond, now a Pastor, is going with us!  We’re going to be rooming together – just like old times!  While I’m sure that Israel & the Holy Land haven’t changed much in 36 years, I know I sure have. I’ll be posting A LOT of pictures and updates.  Follow me on Facebook & Instagram (jampastorchris) to keep up with our adventures!  And most importantly, please keep all of us in your prayers.  There are a total of 15 people going on this tour.

LIFE & LOVE!
Pastor Chris

Friday’s 5 – 10-26-18

This past week we had a first.  I’ve shared many times that we feed A LOT of people in our community through our Food Bank.  About 6 weeks ago, we got a phone call about a family over at Oakland Elementary School who was in desperate need of food.  We told them to send them over and we would take care of them.  The single mom explained how she had been sick and lost her job.  She recently got another job, but was struggling to feed her family.  We loaded her down with groceries.  She was overwhelmed.  Through tears, she told us that when she was back on her feet she would return the favor.  Well, this week that mom made good on her promise!  She came back to our church this week bringing large bags overflowing with food for our Food Bank!  She was so excited to be able to give back!

And speaking of Oakland, they had their “Trunk or Treat” last night (below are a couple of pictures of my “costume”)!  It was a huge success!  We gave away 400 hotdogs and enormous amount of candy!  Our church basically provided all the candy and food for the event.  One of the Teachers told me that having the candy provided was the difference in her being able to participate.  I want to thank all of you who donated candy.  I also want to thank all of you who give financially to our church!  It is your faithful, consistent, and generous giving that enables our church to do everything it does – things that you might not see on a Sunday morning, like feeding families in our community, making a child smile, and making an IMPACT at Oakland Elementary School.

Not only is our church making a difference in the lives of children here in our community, but through Operation Christmas Child we have the chance to change the lives of children around the world!  This is your last week to bring toys and supplies to fill a shoe box – see details below.  And again, it is your giving that makes this happen!
