Friday’s Five – 4-28-17

Dear Coastal,

So many great things to report from this past Sunday!  First of all, a huge shout out to Matt & Kathy Beam and our Cafe Team – Homemade Biscuit & Sausage Day was a huge sucess!  Apparently, our church loves them some homemade biscuits (okay, who doesn’t?).

Also, our livestreaming of both services is now up and running!  Our services were watched from 26 different locations!  I got texts and messages from former members around the country, people who were out of town, and people who were home sick who all got to watch our services.  You can now go directly to our website and watch it live from there.  By the way, livestreaming is not a recording (we’ll be adding that soon).  Livestreaming means you can watch our services LIVE at 9:30am & 11:15am.

The most exciting thing about this past Sunday was definitely our Baptisms!  Each person Baptized has a story.  I’m humbled and honored that we get to witness and be a part of each story!  By the way, our next Baptism is going to be at Folly Beach on Sunday afternoon, June 11th, at 4pm with a Barbeque immediately afterwards.  June 11th is going to be awesome!  We’re going to be kicking off our Summer “At the Movies” series that day!  We’ve reserved the Pelican Watch Pavillion at the Folly Beach County Park the rest of the afternoon and evening.  We’re going to be providing the pulled pork BBQ, paper products, and drinks and we’re asking everyone to pitch in and bring sides/dishes/desserts to share!  You can sign up for this Baptism on our website, on your Connect Card, or by responding to this email.

Friday’s 5:

  1. We’re making plans now for our Summer Semester of LIFE Groups!  The Summer Semester begins the week of June 4th and lasts for 4-6 weeks, right before VBS.  If you are interesed in leading, assisting, or hosting a Summer LIFE Group, the time to let us know is now.  The Summer is a great time for creative, social, or active groups (sports, outdoor fun, cooking, exercise, short studies, dinners, movies, servant evangelism, etc.).  Our Summer Semester helps maintain momentum and connection over the Summer. It’s a great way for people to “try out Groups”.  It’s a great opportunity for new leaders, and it gives our current leaders a much needed rest.  Please respond to this email or let us know on your Connect Card if you have an idea or you’re interested in leading.
  2. Our next Baby/Child Dedication Service is Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14th.  If you would like to have your child dedicated, please let us know on your Connect Card on Sunday or respond to this email.  Please include Parent’s names, child’s full name, and the service you will be participating in.
  3. Sunday, May 21st is going to be Youth Day at Coastal!  Our Youth Pastor Ryan Spell will be bringing that morning’s message and our Students will be helping in various ways during both services.  Don’t miss it!  Come out and support Ryan & our Students, but most importantly, don’t miss what God has to say through Ryan.
  4. Help send our Students to Summer Camp!  Purchase tickets for a Charleston RiverDogs Game on Sunday, May 21st @ 5pm.  Cost of the Ticket is $12 (Tickets are $7 and $5 goes directly to the student).
  5. New to Coastal?  Like to meet our Staff, Ministry Leaders and other new people?  Like to learn more about Pastor Chris and the history of our church?  Make plans to attend our next Necomer’s Reception, Sunday, June 4th, immediately after our 11:15am service (it’s only about 30 minutes).  Childcare and snacks are provided.  You can sign up for our Newcomer’s Reception on our website, on your Connect Card beginning next Sunday, or simply by responding to this email now.

ALL IN!

Pastor Chris

P.S.  Don’t forget, you can support the ministry of Coastal any time and any where by giving through our website, our app, or through TEXTing (843-277-8337).  Coastal is fully funded by the generous, consistent giving of it’s members – YOU!

Friday’s Five – 4-21-17

Dear Coastal,

Hopefully by now, you’ve already read my previous email about all the exciting things that happened this past Sunday and the exciting news about adding another Pastor to our staff.  These are excting times here at Coastal!  I’m just humbled and honored to be a part of it with you!  I can’t thank all of our volunteers enough for what an awesome job you all did this past Sunday and every Sunday!  You guys are the real heros of our church!  YOU ROCK!

Don’t forget – we go back to our 2 regular service times this Sunday – 9:30am & 11:15am.  We’re continuing in our series, “The Real ‘F’ Word.”  This Sunday we’ll be talking about forgiving others.  Just like last week, people are going to be set free!  Don’t miss it!

And speaking of missing a Sunday, beginning this week, we’ll be livestreaming both of our entire services!  In fact, we tested it out last week in our Nursery/Nursing Moms room.  We installed a smart tv on the wall and logged into our ustream channel.  We had to tweak it just a little bit, but it’s now up and running!  So what does all that mean?  It means if you’re sick or out of town you can watch our services live from anywhere!  I’m going to give you ustream url address.  But hopefully next week, we’ll have a page up on our website, where you can simply go there and watch it live.  And pretty soon, we’ll be recording our messages so you can watch them as well as listen to them.  So for now, here is the web address:
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/2jU5QyuZfnv.  Enjoy!

P.S.  We’ll be setting chairs up again this Saturday morning at 9am!  Love for you to join us!  With 6 or more people it only takes 20 minutes or less.  It’s great exercise, you meet other people, and have a lot of fun while serving our community!

Friday’s Five – 4-14-17

Dear Coastal,

I can’t thank everyone enough for coming, setting up the chairs, and getting everything ready for Easter last night and this past week!  Most importantly, I can’t thank you enough for coming to pray!  I hope the prayer walk was a meaningful experience for you and your family.  As I sat in the auditorium last night praying and listening to our Worship Team practice, people were filing in the room, walking up and down the aisles praying for the people who will be filling those seats. It was very powerful and very moving.

Today is Good Friday, think about this.  While you were asleep last night/early this morning, 2000 years ago Jesus was captured in the Garden and condemned to die by the Jewish leaders who hated him.  As you were waking up Jesus was being shuffled back and forth between Pilate and Herod for even more trials and abuse. While you were getting dressed, the Roman soldiers were brutally beating Him and putting thorns on His head.  By the time you were on your way to work He was on his way to the cross.  Satan was laughing.  Satan was convinced that he won.  It’s Friday. . . but Sunday’s coming!

It’s still not too late to make that call, send that email or text, walk across the street, and invite someone to church this Easter!  You never know the power of a simple invitation.  36 years ago a friend from school invited me to church.  I ended up giving my life to Christ and committing to full-time Christian ministry!  Simply put, it changed my life!  Who do you know that needs Jesus?

I want to challenge you again to prayerfully consider what you and your family might give as a special offering for Easter Sunday!  We are simply asking everyone to give above and beyond your regular giving.  We all can’t give the same amount, but together we can all make a sacrifice.  And when we prayerfully do that together, that’s when God shows up and does a miracle.  Every gift counts!  Every gift makes a difference!

A few other reminders about Easter Sunday at Coastal.  Not only will we have breakfast (shrimp & grits) from 7am-8am for the 1st service crowd, but I forgot to tell you that the Kona Ice Truck will be here all 3 services giving away FREE Kona Ice for everyone!  Parking & Seating really is important on Big Days like Easter.  Please, please park as far away as possible and sit to the front and center of each section (I don’t bite on the front row).  And COME EARLY – with more people, everything will take more time.  And with more people and more time, make sure you’re even more gracious, kind, loving, and helpful to everyone!

Friday’s Five – 4-7-17

Dear Coastal,

Woohoo – a woman gave her life to Christ this past Sunday at Coastal!  We’ll be lighting another light on our ONE sign this Sunday!  That’s 29 lights so far this year!  29 people who once were lost, but now are found!  Keep praying for your ONE!  Keep reaching out!  Keep loving!  Keep serving!  Keep sharing!  Keep inviting!  What’s interesting about this particular woman who gave her life to Christ is that she was raised Catholic and yet had never truly heard the Gospel – that you are saved through faith in Jesus and not from good works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

I also wanted to share with you part of an email from someone else who was at one of our services this past Sunday:  “I have never felt the Spirit like I do when I’m at Coastal. I know God has led me to Coastal to help bring me home to Him and to share his word, love and grace with others. Today for the first time in my life I actually felt that God truly loves me, despite all my sins!!  I was so overcome with his love this morning that I can finally see a light at the end of this dark lonely hole that I’m existing in. I know that I must be really hard headed and that God had to put me in this circumstance in order for me to come back home to him and though I don’t understand why at this time, I know God has a purpose. Words can not express how I’m feeling right now. All I can say is Thank you!!!!”

Coastal, we don’t just GO to church – we ARE the church!  And we are on a mission – to do anything short of sin to see people come to Christ – to beat down the gates of Hell and rescue people one life at a time!  We exist to share and experience the LIFE of Jesus with the world around us!  Join us in that mission!  Begin to see your life as a missionary where you live, work, and play.  God has you right where He wants you for a reason and for a season to penetrate the darkness of this world with the light of Christ.  Ask God to open your eyes and your heart to see all the people around you the way He does.  People everywhere are looking for hope and for help and we have have both and His name is Jesus!

We’ve been talking about it, praying & fasting about it – now is the time to start doing it!  INVITE YOUR FRIENDS, RELATIVES, CO-WORKERS, & NEIGHBORS TO CHURCH THIS EASTER!   EASTER IS ONLY 1 WEEK AWAY!  You should all know the particulars by now:  3 services on Easter Sunday – 8am, 9:30am, and 11:15am.  Plus, we’re serving breakfast (shrimp & grits) from 7am-8am.

Easter is one of those days where it’s “all hands on deck.”  In other words, we need all of our volunteers serving!  Do your LIFE Team Leaders a huge favor and go ahead and sign up to serve on Easter Sunday!  Go ahead and shoot Janet Rollins, (Coastal Kidz), Chris Ranew (1st Impressions), Matt Beam (Cafe), Bryan Miller (Security), Christopher Rollins (Worship/Tech) an email or give them a call and let them know which service you can serve on Easter.  Remember, it’s not about YOU.  It’s about that ONE who was raised on religion, but never heard or responded to the gospel.  It’s about that person who walks in our door carrying more baggage than we could ever know, who finds themselves in a very “dark lonely hole”, but gets to hear just how much God really loves them.  That’s why we do what we do, that’s why we serve.  And to love, teach, serve potentially 1,000+ people (including children) in 3 services – it takes ALL OF US!

I want to challenge you again to prayerfully consider what you and your family might give as a special offering for Easter Sunday!  Not only do we invest extra money in postage and advertising, but we also try to make sure that we have plenty of resources (Bibles, Next Steps books, etc.) ready for our Guests and those making decisions.  We also try to make small noticeable improvements with our signage and landscaping.  It all works together and it all makes a difference in preparing for growth.  We all can’t give the same amount, but together we can all make the same sacrifice.  And when we prayerfully do that together, that’s when God shows up and does a miracle.  Every gift counts!  Every gift makes a difference!
